Antidepressants & Abnormal Bleeding: Is There a Link?

Monday October 30, 2006
It is widely accepted that a shortage of the neurotransmitter Serotonin is a likely candidate for causing depression. However, many people are not aware that Serotonin plays a role in the clotting of blood. Some researchers are concerned that antidepressants may be interfering with the body’s ability to adequately form blood clots, thus increasing the risk for abnormal bleeding. Read More

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5 years ago my Father was diagnosed as having manic depression/bipolar. he was in the hospital for 1 month, never accepting that he has a mental illness, and never taking meds. he is in a full blown mania having bought 3 cars(like 5 years ago) including a 2006 Cadillac for which he paid cash for we don’t know where he got the money. His speech and thoughts are racing,he has lost so much weight he looks like he is in the late stages of AIDS, he never sleeps, he is the most important person in the world, he has all these people working for him(he doesn’t work). He lives in Georgia with his wife(whom is in the medical profession and still isn’t able to get help). I live in TN. His wife never sees him but can tell he has been home just by more STUFF being brought to the house. He needs help!!!!!!!!!!!He will NOT repeat WILL NOT go voluntarily. The crisis people have been there, have told him he is showing signs of mania, and still they can not take him because he will not go voluntarily. The ONLY way he can be taken involuntarily is if he hurts someone, threatens someone, or if 2 people have seen in w/in the last 48 hours to go to probate and go before a judge. WHAT IS ONE TO DO? OR HANDS ARE TIED WE CAN NOT DO ANYTHING! ALL I WANT TO DO IS HELP MY FATHER BEFORE HE HURTS HIMSELF OR SOMEONE. HE IS OBSESSED WITH HIS GUNS, HE HATES HIS WIFE BECAUSE ‘SHE PUT HIM IN THE NUT HOUSE LAST TIME.’ He also has a heart condition and is taking Kumiden(sp) which causes him to need his blood checked weekly which he does not do. I have called the highway patrol to stop him for a wellness check but again unless he threatens or goes voluntarily nothing can be done and he is on his way again SPEEDING, GOING 125 MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE OR DO WE JUST HAVE TO WAIT FOR A TRAGEDY AND THEN IT MIGHT BE TO LATE FOR HELP?
PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE. HOW CAN THE LAWS BE CHANGED?
