The Importance of Boundaries

Monday July 9, 2007
BPrayer is an online discussion group with an emphasis on spirituality for the loved-ones of those with bipolar disorder. An excellent tool that is given a great deal of discussion is that of boundary setting. “It is hard not to become so absorbed with our bipolar loved ones that we forget to take care of ourselves and other family members, often allowing this illness to become central focus of our lives. For this reason we support one another in setting healthy, protective boundaries for our children and ourselves, and in the process do the most loving thing for our bipolar loved ones. Establishing clear, firm boundaries is the first step in learning that the only behavior we can control is our own." Here some members discuss their experience.
