Hair Loss as a Side Effect

Monday August 27, 2007
Has anyone ever heard of hair loss as a side effect with lithium? Please help, since last week I have noticed some mild hair loss. Posted in our Forums by tmdrunner.

Tmdrunner, I feel your pain having run amok of medication-induced hair loss a few months ago myself. My hair was coming out by the handfuls. It was so disturbing! The loss of hair from stress – physical or psychological – is known as toxic alopecia. Toxic alopecia can also be brought on by medications. There are a number of meds that are known for this side effect. Lithium and Depakote, two very common prescriptions for those with bipolar disorder, are among the offenders. Usually the hair loss is temporary and the hair will grow back after the medication is discontinued or the dose is reduced. I have this delightful fuzzy halo around my head now that my hair is growing back. If you are worried about the hair loss, talk to your doctor. I hooted and hollered to the pharmacologist and we were able to find a suitable replacement. The hair loss stopped almost immediately. Good luck!

Lithium DOES caus hair loss. I have been on it for three years and I loose hair daily. I have no thyroid problems it’s the damn meds. It’s depressing and I am in the process of getting off it. My problem is mild compared to others and I am sick and tired of the asshole doctors telling you this is not a side effect. I have done my homework and it IS!!!..Your doctor is either not reading his med material regarding side effect for Lithium or he just plain stupid. Find another doctor.

I used to have really good hair till the age of 25 but then suddenly due to some illness I started loosing my hair and I became completely bald. This was the most embarrassing time of my life till the time I got hold of the
produced by this company. I used it for like 2 to 3 months continuously and see now I have got my hair back as healthy as ever. Thanks to this amazing make
