Health in Response to Mental Illness
Thursday November 8, 2007
I've found a marvellous blog called Finding Optimism - Health in Response to Mental Illness, by James Bishop, who has bipolar disorder. Every post I've read has had meaning for me. Some of the highlights:
- Things to Say to Someone With Depression
- Ways to Insult Someone with Depression (you'll all have heard some of these!)
- The 12 Best Things About Being Mentally Ill
- Loving the Person You Care For (by James' wife)

Thanks for sharing those ideas. Positive information about bipolar disorder is always appreciated. I always wondered why it is called a “disorder”. I could think of a few different names other than that.
I received an “Error” page while clicking on the blog sites in this article. However, I agree with the above statement; I can think of a number of other things to call this d**n disorder!
Totally agree! James Bishop, who runs it, is a prince. He recently reviewed my new memoir of manic depression, Invisible Driving, and did a fabulous job. He also interviewed me regarding the creative and emotional challenges inherent in “recreating” a manic episode. Finding Optimism is very well run and has lots of useful links. Alistair McHarg
