Counting Sheep? Counting Down to Health Problems

Sleep issues and bipolar disorder go hand-in-hand. Our forums are riddled with conversations about those horrible sleepless nights of tossing and turning or even being unable to lie down in the first place. Sleep aides are pretty much the norm in medication cocktails. Well research has again corroborated what we know very well first-hand.

Dr. Shyam Subramianian is an assistant professor of medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and a sleep expert. In a recent news release regarding his research Dr. Subramianian notes, “Sleep deprivation can disrupt normal brain function and lead to short term memory loss, anxiety and even depression. For someone who already suffers from a mood disorder, a lack of sleep can trigger more severe symptoms of the disorder.”
