The Bipolar Lives Scholarship

Monday July 7, 2008
The Bipolar Lives Scholarship is a new $500 scholarship, created when journalist Sarah Freeman added a webpage on bipolar scholarships to the Bipolar Lives website, but found only a handful of suitable awards existed. "I was shocked and saddened by the lack of support and realized I could do something directly." According to scholarship donor Sarah Freeman, "Bipolar disorder is in the news constantly right now. This has done a lot of good in terms of raising awareness and shattering some of the myths about bipolar. However, this new awareness needs to be matched by practical measures that encourage and support the bipolar community. Many people with bipolar disorder are extremely talented but fail to realize their potential. Higher education seems like the right place to focus on." The Bipolar Lives Scholarship Application

I am so glad I found this board.

I am going to apply right away. My mother was an extremely gifted person who’s life was taken by bi-polar disorder. I battle a rapid cycling version and have tried making my way through life with symptoms seemingly getting worse. My understanding and courage to face the challenge grows more. For the first time in my life I now am accepting and doing the best I can everyday. It is so important to realize that we can be gifts to this world by not giving up and contributing. Even if it is as small as giving someone a genuine smile.

My granddaughter has been diagnosed as adhd and bipolar at age 17.She is 19 now and is on medication. She is planning to go to college this fall. I wans’t aware of any free scholarships. I believe that is a wonderful idea. I’ve been daily keeping in touch with her letting her know I love her and understand what she is going through. I fell so helpless and sad that she has this disease.

We can be high achievers. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Database Technology in 2005. I will be finished with my MBA in Management in May of 2009. I am also taking on online class to be a certified Project Manager. Keep positive about what you want and the things you know you can achieve. Also, take your meds like your supposed to. Reach for the sky. Don’t count yourself out because your Bi-polar.

This is great. My medical costs are quite high but I have no aid available to me.
