Communication Tool for Teens and Parents

Friday September 5, 2008
The word communication, teen, and parent, rarely fall into the same sentence. Teenagers and communication with parents just don’t seem to mix well in most families. However, for teenagers with bipolar disorder, communication with parents is imperative to ensure that proper treatment is received by the teen. When he was 17, Dan, an active member of this site, wrote an article about using blogging to facilitate conversations between parents and teens.

the whole bipolar thing came out when i was 17 and if i would of talked more to my mom about how i was feeling things could of been cleared up faster and i might not of over dosed on depakote. it was horrible i couldnt get out of bed for a few days and i almost died. i dont remember any of it but thats what i was told. i also spend more time cutting and burning and crying then anything else. then id be up and wild all over the place. sometimes i didnt want to tell my mom how i was feeling because i knew how bad it hurt her. so yeah you should talk with your parents and remember even if they get sad about it they still want to know and take care of you. they are sad because they love you. it might just save your life.
