Is There a Lab Test for Bipolar Disorder?
Out of sheer curiosity - that little monkey that sent me searching for website in the first place - I entered bipolar disorder into their search.
Wait! Is there a lab test for bipolar disorder?
A lot of people would love for there to be a bipolar disorder test. It would be so simple to give a blood sample and have the results come back with a yes or no. But the truth is that there are no physical tests for bipolar disorder - yet. For those as curious as me, that website didn’t proclaim to have one either. ~ Kimberly

With the advent of blogs, I realize how fortunate I have been. While my reason for seeking help was uncontrollable rage, euphoria then depression, the word bipolar was only mentioned with caution and never quite diagnosed. When I asked, the response was measured and usually went life this, “We are treating you for bioplar and it seems to be helping.” I always wanted that diagnosis so I could use it as a quick handle. Now, years later, it is obvious. Too many tests are ambiguous of simply test positive for some other reason. Now with bipolar disorder so often given as a diagnosis, a physical test might be a better alternative.
There is a test to help identify bipolar disorder. It is an FMRI – it measures chemical reactions in the brain. It can not tell you which mental illness you may have, but it will tell you that you brain chemicals are not working properly.
So how do you find a good dr. to help you? Is it all trial and error at the risk of the bi-polar patient?
