When I was in college, I fell hard for a gorgeous boy and figured out how to get his attention: I told him I'd been working for a year before school and had saved a lot of money. Immediately he began purring and coaxing me to buy him a leather vest he really wanted. I was so smitten that I bought it for him. Through the year, I kept having to buy his attention back. I spent more time miserable than not. And a counselor pegged him as a sociopath. Was she right? I'll never know. After that year was over, I changed schools and never saw him again. For a lot of people, when they hear "sociopath" they think "serial killer." As you can tell by my experience, being a criminal isn't necessarily a part of sociopathy.
