Harvard Child Psychiatrists Did Not Report Full Drug Company Pay
Currently the reporting of income from drug companies by researchers is done by the honor system, with no checks of any kind.
A bill introduced by Grassley and Democratic Senator Herb Kohl of Wisconsin would "require drug and device makers to report annually any payments to doctors that exceed $500 a year."
The Times says, "In the past decade, Dr. Biederman and his colleagues have promoted the aggressive diagnosis
and drug treatment of childhood bipolar disorder, a mood problem once thought confined to adults." Given the controversial nature of this diagnosis, these findings will fuel even more debate as to whether childhood onset bipolar disorder even exists.
Obviously the system of income reporting by researchers needs to be changed, and if federal oversight is what it takes, then that's what should be done. This kind of scandal throws doubt on all the research done by these doctors in the last ten years.
Research data and case studies continue to present evidence that childhood onset bipolar disorder is a valid diagnosis, and we know of many parents whose children have been helped by antipsychotic medications. Concerned parents need to monitor their children's symptoms and behavior closely, with or without medications, and response to medications, as well as side effects, should be recorded in detail. The more information you can give to your child's doctor, the better chance you have of getting the right diagnosis and treatment options.

The drugs that are given to children, which are younger now days, were never tested on kids, they are hardly tested on adults, and that applies to most pharacuticals. IT IS A cartel, Big Pharma, and kids are targeted, as we have seen with the ADHD drugs, the fallout, of starting young children on drugs, for behavior disorders, is not in the best interest of the child. Teachers, often point out behaviors,as kids might disrupt the class, and for profitable reasons[for school and parents, who receive funds from the goverment] a child is medicated, INSTEAD of looking at diet, homelife, vaccines, social ills[abuse] and lack of spiritual and self knowledge. IE prevention, which to me and many others is akin to neglect. And this makes these doctors [and they are many] who can bill if it exist in the DSM, and they push these ailments, such as excessive emailing or text messaging, excessive temper tanthrums,making it mental illness, and insurance pays, because someone decided it wasn’t normal. There is a tyranny of normacly, just who decides what is normal?
Often these kids are gifted, but constrained in a large class,mainstreamed, and bored. Ohter who have not eaten or slept properly, and parked in front of a TV as not to be a bother. Our teachers, are “keepers” drowning in paperwork, and too often just counting the years, until retirement. We need top notch teachers and counclers and to pay them for that, and cut them if they do not preform.
Thank God, that Charles Grassley is jumping on this drug issue as it has reached epidemic proportions, and must be addressed. Google Rebecca Riley, a 4 year old, who lost her life, in large part due to Seroqueol. Even 1 life is too much and this is nothing short of war, to correct this situation and I for one am on the front lines.
