Does Topamax give you dry throat?
- from Figi
I don't have any side effects except a very dry throat sometimes which makes me cough.
Did you have memory loss with Topamax?
- from Del Sol
In fact, it had its own adverse side effects that really interfered with my work, namely short-term memory loss. I found myself not recognizing people's names and faces, and forgetting how to spell everyday words.
from Mary Beth Graves
I do find Topamax does affect my memory a little.
My memory isn't so good, I am having problems with concentration, sentence formulation, and I get a little confused at times.
One day I even forgot how to get to my boyfriend's apartment... we've been dating for 3 years! My doc jokes that the name of this drug should be changed to Stupimax (he thinks he's funny...)
Did you get muscle tremors or cramps on this medication?
- from GinaC2
I am having muscle tremors. I feel like my muscles in my arms, face, and back are quivering.
I had a few muscle cramps in my hands when the dosage was upped, but they are gone.
How well does Topamax work for you as a mood stabilizer?
- from LauraJC
I feel terrific, and I'm not saying that in any sort of manic way. Like some of the others have mentioned, the "fog" has cleared. I feel more alert. I've lost 10 pounds. I feel more energetic, but I don't feel like I'm about to spiral into hypomania.
I think grand is more like it. I feel very balanced in my head for the first time in a long while. I can see clearly now, the fog is gone.
I have tried Topamax twice with the same results. Both times everything was going fine, I felt great, I was losing weight...then it happen. I started to experience hypomania and went off Topamax.
I don't post often but I'm Joy and Topamax is my little wonder drug!!! =) Ever since I started it on 25 mg all of the depression and suicidal thoughts disappeared just like magic!!!
Did Topiramate affect your sense of taste?
- from TXSappho
I noticed the change to how Coke tastes first thing Saturday morning. Found out later in the week that it affects Minute Maid Orange and Sprite too. Looks like for me it is any and all soft drinks. Oh well... At least my coffee is unaffected.
I was also told by my pdoc that you're really not going to want to drink anything with caffeine in it. That's what the awful taste is. I happen to be one of those people who has Mt. Dew flowing through my veins instead of blood, and I can attest to the fact that it tastes terrible. I've also tried other caffeinated beverages with the same results. However, it does get worse if the soda is in a can.
Actually, I had exactly the same response when I started Topamax several months ago. I have been a Coca Cola fiend as long as I can remember. When I started the Topamax, I noticed that the taste changed and it left a really weird aftertaste. It was *specifically* with the Coke.
I have been a Diet Coke addict for years, so imagine my surprise when the day after I started Topamax my drink of choice suddenly tasted horrible!!
This may sound like a silly question, but do you feel like your taste buds have died or something? Mine do. My tongue feels numb in the front.
Do you experience tingling sensations?
- from Airjurden
I had severe tingling in my legs to a point that I had no surface feeling in them.
Another side effect that I am having is tingling sensations in my hands and face.
Pins and needles are getting worse and worse, usually when I am stationery, I woke up in the middle of the night with it last night!
How has Topamax affected your weight?
- from Sundae99
As for the weight loss, I noticed a decrease in appetite immediately. As my doctor gradually increased my dosage to therapeutic levels my energy level also increased.
It seems to have helped stabilize my mood without any side effects except for a *decrease* in appetite.
I lost a lot of weight (about 25 lbs) due to the Topamax, but most of it was excess weight, and now I'm back down to my normal weight. One of the main problems I had with the Topamax, for the first 6 or 8 months, was that I had no appetite for food.
I have managed to lose weight on it. I lost the twenty pounds I gained from Depakote.
