We hope you are finding the information you need here at the About.com's Bipolar Disorder website. We (Kim and Marcia) are always scouring the Internet for more info and resources to help you, whether you are Bipolar yourself, have a friend or loved one who is Bipolar, or are researching the topic for school or professional reasons.

Before you contact us by e-mail, please read the Frequently Asked Questions below. Remember, too, that we are not doctors or even health care professionals, and we cannot give medical advice!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. Please send me information about Bipolar Disorder.

A. This entire website is devoted to information about Bipolar Disorder! If you are unsure how to find what you need, read It's All In The Links - then explore and discover.

Q. I have a question about my medications.

A. We can't answer medication questions. You can find a lot of information about meds on this website at Medications, and you can talk to other people on various meds at our Forum.

Q. Please help me locate a good doctor/hospital in the __________ area.

A. We don't have this kind of specific information, but we can point you in the right direction. Read Finding a Therapist. Check out our Net Links topic on the same subject, Finding a Therapist. And finally, visit our Net Links topic U.S. Regional Organizations. There you will find links to the chapter directories for both NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) and NDMDA (National Depressive-Manic Depressive Association). Calling either of these organizations will help you find the local resources in your area.

Q. My doctor has prescribed X, Y and Z for me, is this a good idea?

A. If you are concerned about your medication or side effects, talk to your doctor and pharmacist. Request a second opinion, if necessary. We are not qualified to give any medical advice or even opinions.

Q. Can you recommend books on this subject?

A. Indeed we can! Visit our Bookstore, where we list a number of books to give you help and insight about Bipolar Disorder, medications, and depression.

Q. My [family member] is bipolar and is not complying with doctors' orders. Please tell me what to do.

A. This is so difficult. We wish we knew the answer! But every situation is unique. We can only recommend that you talk to the patient's doctors, counselors, etc., and remember to take care of yourself while trying to help the other person.

Post to the Bipolar Disorder Forum

Sometimes, too, the best way to get the information you need is to talk with other people who are in the same situation as you. Do you want to know how others are reacting to Depakote, or whether other mothers have a particular problem with a bipolar child? Ask at our Forum! Post your questions or comments and you'll get input from a variety of voices. We check the Forum regularly, too, and will answer whatever we can.

About Emailing the Guides

Please be aware that during busy periods it may take a few weeks before you will receive an answer, so we do urge you to explore our site and our Forum before writing. You can email us at bipolar.guide@about.com. Use this address also to report dead links or to submit a link suggestion.
