Geodon (Ziprasidone) Side Effects

Geodon - generic ziprasidone - is an antipsychotic medication used in the treatment of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses where psychotic features are present.

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience the following:

Less common:

rapid, irregular, or pounding heartbeat; fainting or loss of consciousness

If any of the following side effects occur, check with your doctor as soon as you can:

More common:

drowsiness; dizziness; restlessness; uncontrollable movements; uncontrollable shaking of hands; constipation; diarrhea; nausea; vomiting; rash or hives; runny nose; sneezing; cough

Less common:

anxiety; fever; muscle rigidity; confusion; sweating; uncontrollable movements of your arms, legs, tongue, face, or lips; painful erection of the penis that lasts for hours

Signs of Hyperglycemia:

extreme thirst; frequent urination; extreme hunger; blurred vision; weakness; dry mouth; upset stomach and vomiting; shortness of breath; fruity-smelling breath; decreased consciousness

Symptoms of overdose:

drowsiness; slurred speech; sudden uncontrollable movements; uncontrollable shaking of hands; anxiety. You may experience other side effects that go away as your system adjusts to the medication. These usually do not need medical attention. However, check with your doctor if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome:

More common:

headache; dry mouth; loss of appetite; muscle pain; weight gain; sensitivity to heat

Less common:

dizziness or fainting when rising from lying down (orthostatic hypotension)

Some patients may experience other side effects not listed above. If you notice any other effects, check with your doctor.
