Definition:
An anticonvulsant is a medication generally used to treat seizure disorders such as epilepsy. These drugs are used to prevent seizures (convulsions), to make seizures less severe, and/or to stop a series of seizures.

Some anticonvulsants are also used as mood stabilizers in the treatment of bipolar disorder. The most commonly used include:
