Definition:
Hyperphagia is the clinical term for overeating, but more than that, it refers to increased appetite and increased consumption of food, enough to be clinically significant. There is some evidence that depressed patients who exhibit hypersomnia (excessive sleeping), hyperphagia and extremely low energy are more likely than others to have bipolar disorder rather than unipolar depression.
