Definition:
Therapy, in the broadest sense, is a term that can be applied to any form of treatment for any illness or disorder. For example, antacid is a form of therapy for heartburn, rehabilitation is a form of therapy for addiction, and exercise is a form of therapy for obesity.

As it relates to mental health and mental disorders, therapy is usually a general term used to reference the sessions held between a therapist (a mental health professional of any discipline such as a psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, nurse, etc., with training and expertise in the art of helping a patient psychologically) and a patient. Examples include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), group therapy, family therapy, etc.
