Definition:
There is no formal definition of ultra-rapid cycling bipolar disorder. Some sources define it as cycling monthly, some weekly, some every few days. However, in common usage, ultra-rapid cycling falls between rapid cycling, defined as four or more distinct episodes of mania or hypomania and depression per year, and ultradian rapid cycling, where moods change in a single day.
