Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS)

Definition:
Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome or NMS is a potentially fatal complication of therapy with antipsychotic medications such as Haldol, Seroquel, Risperdal and Clozaril. Symptoms include:
  • high fever
  • muscular rigidity
  • rapid heartbeat
  • altered mental state
  • tremor
  • dark urine
  • profuse sweating
  • rapid breathing
  • incontinence
