I've written a great deal about difficult times in my battle with bipolar disorder, so I thought readers might find it interesting to know what I consider a good day. In a nutshell, good days are days when I accomplish a lot. This is my to-do / done list for Saturday, August 26th, 2006. It started out with items 1-27 and the rest were added as they happened. What's interesting about this long list is that I didn't feel in the least hypomanic. It's wonderful to me that I was able to accomplish so much on a day when I just felt "normal" - that is, what I imagine is normal for people who are not bipolar. (I haven't had much "normal" in my life!) Of course, the big question now is, can I do it again? And again?

  1. Make Mom's breakfast
  2. Order from Victorian Trading Company - a decorative magazine holder and matching wastebasket for the sunroom
  3. Eat breakfast
  4. Do one glossary entry for About Bipolar Disorder
  5. Spray Mom's bedroom and light scented candle there
  6. Pull 3 videotapes to give away
  7. Open box from Soft Surroundings (a catalogue order I'd received) and deal with contents
  8. Do one glossary entry
  9. Hang up all earrings
  10. Move tables in sunroom
  11. Empty dishwasher
  12. Do one glossary entry
  13. Fill dishwasher

  20. Work 10 minutes on filing backlog
  21. Take metal bowl from sunroom to dishwasher

  23. Box up discontinued medications for Dr. L's charity
  24. Go through bag of magazines
  25. Put laundry in dryer

  27. Do one glossary entry
  28. Pick some earrings to give away - stuff I never wear
  29. Put laundry away
  30. Start Mom's laundry
  31. Make dinner
  32. Clear table
  33. Load dishwasher
  34. Put laundry in dryer

  36. Set up Mom's pills for the coming week
I was whacked-out tired by the end of the day and my low back hurt like blazes, but I was sure proud of myself!
