How I Get Myself Moving

I have to give myself a pep talk and tell myself "you know you're gonna feel better if you'll just get up and move." And remember how happy it makes my kids and husband when they know I'm o.k.

What Helps Me Keep Going Once I Get Started

I put some upbeat music on that I like and turn it up, up, up. Music has a way of lifting my spirits and my feet. I also think about small things that will make my family happy like getting my husband's clothes ready for him and towel for a shower after a long day in the coal mines. It doesn't take a lot from me but means so much to him that I would take time to do that for him.

Lessons Learned

  • I always find that how I was feeling can be changed with a little effort. And more times than not, the day turns out to be productive. That lifts me up even more.

What are the short-term benefits?

I feel happier when the day has been productive. My kids and husband are much happier when mommy has cleaned house, cooked supper and made cupcakes.

What are the long-term benefits?

I learn that it is possible to overcome thoughts and feelings of being depressed as long as I make the first move.
