What symptoms did you have before you were diagnosed?
I've just read the nightmare of Rider3. I'm sorry you had to go through that.
I had a few responses as I read through your story, relating it to myself.
I felt angry that Toxic People exist! I have also experienced this misfortune in the workplace, as well as in other areas of my life. I think the most painful part is that we don't always know how fragile we are, or are becoming, before "we lose." I guess all we can hope for in these workplace/toxic co-worker situations is for our bosses to see right through the "TP"...hopefully that person IS NOT your superior!
What events led to your being diagnosed bipolar?
I was first diagnosed at age 18 just after moving across the country to college. I had been Bipolar II with mostly Depressive Episodes, but had no idea what to do about "just the way I was" (moody). I sought out a therapist, and went to the most popular one amongst my close circle of "friends," and she took me by the hand, led me down the hall of the office complex to the office of a Primary Care doctor who within minutes, literally, put me on a huge dose of Lithium and thereafter just kept the refills coming; no blood work, follow-up...nothing. And as it turned out, i was having some very severe and consequently dangerous side effects which were not recognized until I saw a Psychiatrist years later.
Lessons Learned
- My concern for others is that we as a whole don't let the toxic people at work get away with it, ESPECIALLY if we see some signs that the person is at all vulnerable/fragile/having a hard time with anything that we might be able to help with if we can step in. And get to a doctor in time, before the crash/fall into the abyss/lost in the dark, etc. With the Internet, use it to find prospective Specialist Physicians/Therapists, etc., and check their reputation and research any/all medications prior to taking them.
What Is Your Current Diagnosis?
Bipolar II
Major Depressive Disorder
Anxiety Disorder with Panic episodes
Panic Disorder
Do You Agree With the Diagnosis? Why or Why Not?
Yes...I think with all of the "Diagnose symptoms" overlapping so much, we should be treated by symptom and not "Disorder"
