What symptoms did you have before you were diagnosed?

  • Spending excessive amounts of money
  • Hypersexuality
  • Uncontrollable crying
  • Rage fits
  • Staying up all night and only getting a few hours of sleep
  • Cutting
  • Thoughts of suicide
  • Feeling worthless
  • Horrible mood swings from sad to angry to happy.

What events led to your being diagnosed bipolar?

My symptoms got worse as time went by. I joined the Air Force and was put in the ER twice, and that's when the military mandated me to go see a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist put me on Lithium and Klonopin which helped very well.

Lessons Learned

I should have recognized all these symptoms:
  • Cutting myself almost every other day I should have sought help
  • Crying for no reason in the bathroom with the lights off should have been a sign
  • Spending more than $500 a day and wanting to go to clubs and party should have been a sign
  • Disconnecting myself from family members
  • Being mad at my husband for a minute then being really happy all of a sudden
  • Hypersexuality

What Is Your Current Diagnosis?

Bipolar disorder manic/depressive

Do You Agree With the Diagnosis? Why or Why Not?

Yes I do, because it runs in my family and I am beginning to see the changes that I go through and it's a battle every day. I am on Lithium and it helps a lot. When I am on regular depression pills I feel a lot worse and I harm myself more.
