What symptoms did you have before you were diagnosed?

I was in a clinical pharmacology study for depression. I had clinical depression and then one day, while on antidepressants, I had a manic episode.

What events led to your being diagnosed bipolar?

This happened when I was in my 40's. Then I had changes in medication, which did not work. I have gone through many meds and then tried ECT, which put me in a catatonic state. My doctors put me on Risperdal; I am still on this but I get side effects from it. These side effects make me want to go off Risperdal, which I have done, but then I get very depressed. Also, I have Complicated Grieving since my son died 3 1/2 years ago. It all makes me feel confused. I am also going through menopause.

Lessons Learned

  • I am not sure if any lessons have been learned. I just keep working on my life each day.

What Is Your Current Diagnosis?

Bipolar 1

Do You Agree With the Diagnosis? Why or Why Not?

I do agree with my diagnosis because everything I have read about or talked about to my doctor tells me it's true.
