My Spending Problem - Then and Now

I used to have credit cards. That was bad. I maxed them all out, and now I have none.

My Spending Control Strategy

I don't have any credit cards. I never borrow money. I always pay bills as soon as I get paid. That seems to help. I tend to look at a lot of things on the internet but I'm too broke to buy the things, and by the time I get paid, I don't want them anymore. Web games are good too because spending fake money is almost as good as real money when you're hypomanic. If all else fails, go the library.

Advice

  • Quickly pay all bills
  • If you feel hypomanic, go check out a ton of library books

Special notes - internet shopping

Fill your shopping cart with whatever you want. Resist the urge to immediately purchase. Wait 24 hours. By then you will have probably changed your mind.

Special notes - dealing with creditors

I don't. It's a trigger. Unless it's student loans. Those people are nice.

Special notes - credit cards

Credit cards are evil!

Final thoughts

A spending spree may be fun while it lasts, but as soon as it's over, there is guilt and little to show for it.

Marcia Purse, Bipolar Disorder Guide, says:

I love the idea of going to the library when you feel like spending. Going through the stacks, selecting and bringing home lots of books can certainly feel just like an expensive shopping spree, and it doesn't cost a dime!
