My Spending Problem - Then and Now

I use to have a check book and spent more money on overdrafts and no control over my spending.

My Spending Control Strategy

I only use a prepaid visa card. If I have the need to spend, for that awesome high that comes with it, I will shop and put things in my cart and along the way take them out. If I do purchase them I found it works to keep the receipt and take them back a few days later. This accomplishes two things: it takes care of the need to buy something and it gives me money back later when I need it.

Advice

  • Shop at stores where you know you can take back the item if you need to.
  • Keep yourself on a budget. Even if you go over - know that you can take back this item.
  • As you walk throughout the store or check out, see what you really don't need and take it out of your cart.

Marcia Purse, Bipolar Disorder Guide, says:

Having only a prepaid card for spending is a great way to keep your spending under control. It takes time to add money to it, and that gives you time to think twice.
