Lunesta for Chronic Insomnia

On April 24, 2005, Sepracor Inc. began advertising Lunesta. This medication was approved by the FDA in December 2004 as a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic agent used to treat insomnia. Their web site offers, "The scientists who developed Lunesta (eszopiclone) set out to find a safe and effective way to give people a restful night's sleep; one where people could fall asleep quickly, stay asleep through the night with fewer interruptions and wake up feeling refreshed. And our scientists have done just that." Of particular note, the drug has now received approval to be prescribed without the recommendation that use be limited to less than two weeks. Read More
