It was back to work today, giving me a better-defined meal schedule. At the office I even have set daily tasks in Outlook to remind me when it's time for morning snack, noon medication and midafternoon snack.

Breakfast was the usual Atkins Chocolate Royale shake, I just never seem to leave enough time to do more (do I really want to?). When it was time to get my lunch ready, I balked suddenly. For one thing, Mom had put my one and only perfectly-sized plastic salad container in the dishwasher over the weekend and melted it. For another, I suddenly just could not face making the same damned salad again. It's not that I couldn't face eating it - I was just so sick of MAKING it! So I decided the hell with it, Wendy Bumgardner has mentioned eating at Subway, I'll do that today. (Even though I don't think I have been to Subway more than once in my life!)

Arrived at work shortly before 10:00 and had my midmorning cheese stick around 10:40. My side and ribs were bothering me but the pain wasn't too bad for a change, so I was better able today to move around the office and feed our demanding scurry of squirrels outside. I know I haven't mentioned the squirrels before - we started out by feeding peanuts to one late last fall, and a year later we have six or seven, including one who climbs up the screen door if we don't get peanuts out to him quickly enough!

At lunchtime I braved the mysterious depths of Subway. Ended up with a tuna salad with tomatoes, swiss cheese, black olives and cucumbers. Asked for fat-free Ranch dressing but that turned out to be nasty! I could have done without the cucumbers, too. It wasn't all that great but it filled me up and only cost $3.76 with tax. I ate a little less than half at lunchtime and the rest later.

After lunch Jo and I walked for about 25 minutes. Our pace is still much slower than it was before I had surgery, and I hope it isn't too frustrating for her. I had another cheese stick around 4:00 and actually managed to stay till five today - my longest day at the office yet.

When I got home, I ate one more cheese stick and went straight to bed till dinner, which was a pork cube steak and cauliflower. Tossed salad, cocoa ricotta crème and a last cheese stick finished up the day.

My mood was MUCH better today. The post-surgical pain remained bearable all day, we got a lot of work done, and I finished off some things that had been nagging at me for some time. Now if I could just find something for lunch besides salads...
