Geodon (Ziprasidone)

Geodon (generic name ziprasidone) is an antipsychotic that may be prescribed to alleviate psychotic features such as paranoia and hallucinations sometimes associated with extreme mood swings in those with bipolar disorder (manic depression). The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the antipsychotic medication Geodon (ziprasidone) early in 2001 for treatment of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. The most exciting aspect of adding this medication to the schizophrenia / bipolar arsenal is that unlike earlier antipsychotics, Geodon is not associated with weight gain.
