Schizoaffective Disorder is a mental illness characterized by symptoms of both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder; it cannot be diagnosed as one or the other of these disorders. There must be a period of time when schizophrenic symptoms but "normal" mood are present to make this diagnosis.
