Definition:
Derailment is a characteristic of thought or speech found in thought disorders including schizophrenia, schizophreniform disorder and schizoaffective disorder. In conversation, the person's speech jumps from one topic to another unrelated topic (or only slightly related) in mid-sentence.
Pronunciation: dee-RAIL-ment
Examples:
"On my way to the store today, I always use a vinegar rinse when I wash my hair, but there are mice in the basement."
