Definition:
Effexor - generic Venlafaxine - is an antidepressant chemically unrelated to most other antidepressant medications. It is classed as a selective serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, or SSNRI. Effexor has been found to be effective for treatment-resistant depression and depression with anxiety.

Effexor must not be used with with MAOI antidepressants, as serious, even fatal complications can result.
