Buried memories of trauma can be very difficult to cope with. They are usually painful and often deeply distressing. How do you cope when this happens to you? Share Your Ideas

Have a good cry....

I have learned to cope by having a good cry every once in awhile when memories get overwelming and won't stay buried....I have a little 15 pound dog that the second she hears me sniffle comes to snuggle and comfort me, she makes me feel so much better with her kisses. She has been with me through all of my son's heartache and I thank God every day for such a sweet dog. They are truly man's best friend's. I have never had any professional help or taken any drugs or drank myself into oblivion so I didn't have to recall my painful memories. I deal with life head on, but thats just me. I have some very tramatic memories of my son almost dying 2 1/2 years ago during a confrontation with police while he was having a manic episode. He was stabbed in the aorta and lost all of his blood, by the grace of God he lived across the street from a hospital and a top heart surgeon was there at the time...so my son's life was saved but it was touch and go for awhile. I still suffer painful memories..
